Dear Colleagues and Friends,
It will be a great pleasure and privilege to welcome you to the 35th International Congress of the Society for Microbial Ecology and Disease (SOMED) to be held on 15-17thMay 2012, in Valencia, Spain, on behalf of the Conference and SOMED Committees.
This annual conference, devoted to scientific advances in human microbial ecology and its role in health and disease, has attracted the interest of an increasing number of scientists and other experts all over the world since the first meeting in the USA in 1976.
The 35th SOMED Conference will offer an excellent programme covering the latest breakthroughs in this scientific field. These will include the most up-to-date knowledge of the roles played by the human microbiota in health and disease, the role of bioflims in mucosal colonization and infections, the influence of gut microbes on extra-intestinal tissues, advances in food microbial ecology and safety, and challenges for microbial food cultures, probiotics and prebiotics. This programme will provide a unique opportunity for discussion, debate, and the exchange of novel ideas and new collaborations among interested parties in microbial ecology in the context of health and disease.
We would also like to invite you to enjoy Valencia, a city that combines history, tradition and modernity in an unusual way. Its architecture dates from the first century B.C. to the most futuristic, 21st century design. Valencia is also a city experienced in handling all kinds of events; with a reputation as one of the most comprehensive and versatile destinations on the continent
